It occurs to me as I sit here trying to attract your attention that I may be speaking to myself!
So forgive me if this sounds patronising to some of you, but I wonder if many of you who still don't read blogs or understand how they really work think I’ve lost the plot! So I thought an explanation might be helpful.
Blogs are basically websites designed to bring you news and opinion with a facility for you to comment, feedback and have your say. Think of it like an online magazine/newsletter that you choose to read but that you can also write about. Other people in your community who also read the blog can see what you have said and may choose to respond. It can be serious or it can be a bit of fun.
You can either go to the website directly by following a link such as the ones we have recently sent to our customers (i.e. you are invited each time and choose to visit) or by ‘following’ blogs you are interested in (i.e. you opt in to receive the news direct to your email in box).
Once you have the hang of it you can opt to receive news and info on your favourite subjects – might be news from the BBC or it might be gardening blogs or hobby based blogs... The sky is the limit so whatever takes your fancy!
In order to follow our blog you need to click on the ‘follow’ button further down this screen on the right hand side. A box will appear on the screen asking which type of email account you have – possibly ‘Google’ or ‘Yahoo’. Don’t worry if you don’t have one – you can set up a Google account for free really easily. Just click on the Google icon and follow the instructions.
I have to add that I am not a ‘techy’ person myself and I have been dragged into the on-line social media world kicking and screaming – so if I can manage the basics so can anyone!
My main reason for wanting to make this work is because it means I can speak to you, our customers regularly, I can ask for your opinion, and I can use it like a newsletter without the paper, so its far more environmental. As our business is very much about low food miles it follows that we want to be paper efficient. It also means that Peter and I wont have to walk around the village in the freezing cold posting leaflets through doors in the evenings.
So to encourage you to have a go we are offering you 10% off your next shop either from the deli counter or in the coffee shop when you elect to follow the site. We will know who you are by checking the blog each night for new followers and comments.
Oh by the way – you will be relieved to know that I wont be filling your inbox as I have made a pact with myself to only ‘blog’ once a week at the most!
So welcome to our Blog and Happy Blogging!!!
